Going to be a rainy start to HKSCM

HK Observatory says this Sunday 17th Jan, "Cloudy with occasional rain. Rain will be heavier at first. Temper-atures falling later." with temperatures between 14-18deg.
What tips do you fine ladies and gentlemen have for running in awful weather?

I had a miserable time running the UNICEF HM in 2012 or 2013, when it went from light rain to torrential. Really didn't enjoy it that much. For this weekend, I'm doing double the distance... double the misery?

- Wear a Goretex rain jacket?
- Run with bin liners or 7-11 poncho?
- Put on more t-shirts to insulate more body heat?
- Do nothing different and just deal with it??

The only 'bright side' is that I now have a Garmin watch so I no longer need to worry about my electronics going haywire in the rain!

7-11 poncho

Re: Going to be a rainy start to HKSCM

I used 7-11 poncho a few years ago. It is fine to me.

I also did not throw away the poncho after the start and when it stopped raining last time. I kept it throughout the race without any problem. Besides, I used it again when it rains again during the running.

Could not be any more miserable than number pickup today. I ruined a $1000 pair of shoes standing in the mud field where the tents were set up. Meanwhile 50 meters away, 100 empty booths stood unused on dry pavement. Could the HKAAA make the small effort to adjust to the weather conditions and change the location of pickup from the Victoria swamp to the ready and waiting expo booths for one day????

Thanks for the tips on the cheap poncho - Got one during lunch! $25. Then heard from colleagues that Park N Shop sell a pack of 3 for just $30!

Jay, sorry to hear that... yes, the field is not a brilliant idea if weather turns bad... been there, done that! So now I go for the bib pickup as soon as possible and ignore their suggested time window, while the weather is good! Really sucks getting shoes muddied while just waiting when there were other viable options for collecting bibs.... Hope your shoes can be cleaned and dried ready for Sunday, Jay!

I did a "dry" run this lunch wearing the kit I planned to use for Sunday... Compressport short-sleeve shirt (promised to be insulating, while also ventilated and somewhat hydrophobic), thin fingerless gloves, and CW-X knee-length compression gear with a cap. Worked out well and stayed warm enough to not be afriad of the rain now. Mentally prepared! :)
But nonetheless, will also be wearing the 7-11 poncho for at least the first 5km, and see how it goes from there. The worst weather is usually along the bridge, highway, and just coming up onto the Connaught Road flyover.

Good luck everyone!!!!

Good luck to you! I'm not racing. I came down from Dongguan just to get my t-shirt. Gave up after the bottom literally fell of my leather dress shoes. Tossed them in the bin! It was nice to see that they still allow foreign runners last minute entry, though. Next year I will not even bother with the 7:00 AM online scramble.
