Re: Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015

Glad to see SC have finally improved the registration process. This year was far smoother than last year.

Re: Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015

Does anyone doing the 10k think the k markers were wrongly placed?

I did a 2min 54sec between 4-5km (the 4th and 6th kms were over a minute slower).

9th k seemed short too, but it was mainly downhill.

I'll moan about the silly "elite" zone later.

Re: Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015

The SCMP reports here http://www.scmp.com/infographics/article/1691300/long-run-2015-visualisi... that only 5,142 entrants completed the SC marathon. Out of a quota of 15,000 that is a pretty poor finisher ratio. I wonder how many of that missing 10,000 didn't actually turn up at the start. Don't know the stats for the half- or 10km runs but I doubt there was anything like the reported 70,000 at the start line. Runners in HK complain about the lack of public buy-in and the tendency to complain rather than embrace the event but numbers like these point to a preference for revenue raising over staging a credible event. Perhaps in future SC/HKAAA could prioritise applications for runners who have demonstrably completed the relevant distances, be more honest about the numbers actually on the route and adjust entry fees and real participant quotas accordingly. This would help plan a route that could accommodate the real number of runners vs the hypothetical 70,000 and it might attract a bit more public interest then too.

Re: Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015

The report figure of 5,142 only refers to the Marathon Challenge event and then only those who finished within 6 hours. From the official results, there were about 12,100 finishers within 6 hours for the three waves. A 10% no-show is usual for all races, perhaps a little higher for a full marathon as it is harder to muddle through if you are carrying an injury than, say, a 10k. There were also a lot of over 6 hours and non-finishers not counted. All in all, I think the finisher ratio is what would be expected.
