Running along Airport Express service road

Hi,
live in Kowloon and looking for new running routes. When on the Airport Express one can regularly see cyclists on the service road next to the tracks to/from the airport.

Did anyone run there before? What is the best way to get there? Is it actually possible to run there from Kowloon or is it just highways and one has to take public transport first?

Any input much appreciated.

Thanks,
Andre.

Re: Running along Airport Express service road

I have trained on that route. The service road south of the highway is rather narrow, and although it doesn't have much traffic, I don't find it very relaxing watching out for traffic. There is another service road north of the railroad tracks, I find that one much better, but it doesn't go all the way through. You have to switch to the south service road at one point, then switch back again.

The entire island is not accessible on foot. The easiest is to take an airport bus and get off at the toll plaza. Cross to the bus stop on the north side, and from there you can descend a stairway to the north service road. Or you can take the ferry to Mui Wo. The run across from Mui Wo is pleasant and brings you out a kilometre or so from Tung Chung.

Do it now, though. It's mighty sunny on that road in warm weather.

Thanks much Bill.

The other option is to get out at Sunny Bay MTR, you can run down to Disneyland, which is really nice with very little traffic.

Hop on Kowloon MTR and get off at Sunny Bay. DON'T try to run all the way up to Tsing Yi.

It's impossible to run on the bridge to Lantau unless it's Marathon Day.
