HKRunners Summer Gathering (Rescheduled to Jul 5)

Dear members, Are your longing for another HKRunners gathering? Now we have one this Summer. Date: 5 July, 2009 (Sun) Time: 3:00pm (start of group run), approx 6:00pm (dinner) Meeting point: Island East Sports Centre (52 Lei King Road, Sai Wan Ho, adjacent to the Hong Kong Film Archive, Exit A of SWH MTR) Please click here to see the location on Google Map. What do do: Causal run in the Eastern Promenade and nearby area (around 10km, route to be confirmed later); followed by dinner at the nearby Tai Pai Dong at Sai Wan Ho Municipal Services Centre or other restaurant to be decided later. You can participate in either or both. *For those who just come for dinner please arrive the Sports Centre before 6:00pm. *Locker and showering facilities are available at the Sports Centre in the changing rooms on 4/F. No registration for lockers is required, but please remember to bring your padlock for added safety. *Cost for dinner (should be around HK$80) will be shared by all participants. Who can come: Anybody (you don't need to know any of us); you should be able to find us as some of us will wear the HKRunners singlet. Just show up and join our run and/or dinner. *No registration required but it would be good if you can indicate your interest by replying to this thread so that we can have some ideas especially for dinner reservation. *Please also use this thread if you have any questions, and check this thread regularly just in case there are any changes or updates. For those who have signed up, I am sorry that I just got an imperative work to do on 11/7 from 4 to 7pm. It's unlikely for me to attend neither run nor dinner on that day. Two suggestions here: 1. May I change the date to 4/7 with the same time & same venue? or 2. Somebody take my job and be the hosts of this gathering. Please let me know your preference a.s.a.p. Thanks.

Can't do it on July 4. Have scheduled O/N OTW training starting from 1715 hours at Pak Tam Au. Sorry. Perhaps some of us can do the O/N hike or a morning run on July 5 in Shatin / Tai Wai and have dim sum afterwards. There are no races scheduled for July 5. Or does this become too confusing and create too many choices?

Speeto, I have registered for the Hong Kong Inter-City Athletics Championships on 5/7 morning. 5/7 afternoon should be fine for me. But I am afraid Richy is unable to make it.

Hi Mike, I will be travelling on Jul 18 and return inearl;y Aug. Since this gathering is proposed and hosted by Pauline, it's not so good if we do it without her :) Since a number of our members have expressed interest on Jul 11, I suggest perhaps we keep the same date and time but relocate to Tsing Yi or Tsuen Wan so that she can still join the dinner after her work (she needs to do something in Tsing Yi until 6:30pm). Any other suggestion?

I don't think I can leave Tsing Yi before 7pm on 7-11. Therefore, it's unlikely I can attend on 7-11. I prefer changing the date to 5/7 afternoon? If someone who have registered can't make it, I may organize another gathering in AUG specialized for him.

Hi Waiming, You are welcome! Re logo, the other day I made one for the Twitter page and ended up using it also here and our facebook page to make it more consistent. The font is from the movie Blade Runner and I like the line acroos the characters which gives a feel of movement.

Mike, There are lot of car parks around, both outdoor, indoor or meters. For example, HK Film Archieve, Lei King Wan(just opposite to the Sai Wan Ho Ferry), Eastern Magistrac or the Grand Promenade. No worry, just go there and you can find.

Hi Danny You are welcome. Please note that if you come by MTR, after getting out of Exit A, the sports center is not far away but you can not see it because the view is blocked by the flyover. After you get out of Exit A, cross the street there is a McDonalds, then walk beside the flyover towards Tai Koo Shing direction and the sports center is on your right just before Tai Koo Shing. I also had problem finding the directions when I visited it a few weeks ago for the first time. Please not that this is called Island East Sports Center, not to be confused with the the Sai Wan Ho Sports Center in the area. Plese note that lockers are available on the 4/F (and also on 3/F) inside the changing rooms. No registration is required but you need a HK$5 dollar coin to take the key out, and please add your padlock for extra security; the showering area is quite small and a bit old. -- Follow me on twitter.com/keithchamp

Hi Lester No plan for new T-shirt/singlet with the new logo and glad that you love it. People like the current design because "Hong Kong" is visible from a far; good for overseas races as people would shout "Hong Kong" when you pass by. In Hong Kong, a reason we call ourself HKRunners is because we don't want to be confused with Hong Kong Runner magazine as some people still think we are related; but HKRunners means very little outside Hong Kong. And in Hong Kong, most of us would wear singlet of the running club we belong to anyway. Dear all, My plan is to meet at around 3pm at IESC, get changing and start running at around 3:30pm. The dinner place is Kuen Fat Resturant at 121-131,Shau Kei Wan Road, Sai Wan Ho (權發飯店 地址: 西灣河筲箕灣道121-131號金寶大廈一樓). We have booked a table for 14 ppl. at 6:00pm. I had planned to join the run, but I now see that the men's 5000 at the international meet in Junk Bay will start at 4:40. This should be worth seeing. Hi Bill No problem; if you arrive the restaurant earlier than us maybe they would give you a better and bigger table since you are their first gweilo (no offensive) guest ever :) And also make sure they have stocked up enough cool beers! Bill Suggest you go an extra Km beyond that. Please tell them in Cantonese you are the San Hahn Tai Bo, the Sifu in running and race-walking of all those who will come later. You are treating us to a feast as a graduation celebration and ask them for a big discount or at least free beers. Two weeks ago a Cantonese-speaking gweitsai hiking mate got free beer from a little store in Tai Tong near the new finish of OTW when we ended a training hike there.

Hi Keith, Due to some technical problems with my F205, I can only produce the proposed route in pdf format, and sorry in very last minute. The route is about 9Km and is uphill from B to C and D to C. For runners who would like to increase milage and more ambitious may consider to do more loops from C to D. Cheers

I am living nearby and would come to run by walk-in. Today's aquathon is cancelled and I will remain home or run nearby. Route path A-B is my usual jogging path. It seems will be a treasure to me that your gathering is to be held so at the time that I can meet some friends/ new friends rather than wasting this Sunday because of no aquathon to go. Hope no raining.
