Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

I wonder if the light rail system runs early that morning as there are no hotels near the start/finish line. Could Tey provide some insight? Thank you.

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

The organiser is currently working on a partnership with Rapid KL for pick up runners at several points in Kuala Lumpur. As soon as it's finalised they will put it on the website. Best regards

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Thank you Rainer for your prompt reply.

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Go hard to go home! This looks interesting. Originally planning to do Phuket as a goal before the summer heat kills my fitness but Thailand's political volatility has me wondering. I was running in Malaysia early in the week and it is very hard going in the humidity.

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

I have just tried to register online but the system showed error after keying personal information. That is not very encouraging. Resolve to enjoy running and life!

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Hi bakhwee I have contacts with the PR agency promoting the event, and Rainer is a member of the team. I will send him an email in case he does not visit our board very often.

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Dear Runners Please find attached a press release which talks about the route of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon. This should give you a better idea of what to expect when you come on down to Kuala Lumpur. Looking forward to welcoming you and many more from Hong Kong to Malaysia should you decide to take part. Any news yet whether the sky train/subway would run early on race day morning? Resolve to enjoy running and life!

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Ya...But surname is Tey。 I hope can help as I can, well come to SCKLM !!

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Anyone else do this? Half marathon was a flat course- dull route. No kilometre signs / directions for half marathon was a real problem and I'm sure some of the half marathoners were sent the wrong way a couple of times- doubling back round a few roundabouts. I estimated I ran 1- 2km more than the 21k! Weather was cooler due to a rainshower early on, but short on drinks at the drinks stations last 5km and we hit a deluge of slower 10k runners in the last 5k. All in all o.k, but not a good advert for the Standard Chartered brand- I would choose Singapore for organisation and atmosphere every time.

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Live life in earnest, work hard, play harder! Thank you to Tey and his friends for the pics. I can relate and the last two km running through the older part of KL, e.g. Cafe Coliseum, brought back memories for me.

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Back from KL last night after finishing the full marathon there last Sunday. In general, the organization was satisfactory with every 2.5KM water stations. Additional lemon juice and sports drink also available except for the 37K where the runners (FM, HM, 10K) merged. Good runner singlet and finishers' medal and T-shirt. The route has many many turns and constantly running up and down the overpasses. The longest up slope was around 33-37K where the runners were mostly exhausted. During the first 2 hours when it was still dark and where the street lights are weak, it's possible that some runners would miss some of the turns. I missed once and wasted 100M. The road was only partly closed for traffic, so the runners were mostly running along side with the cars. At the junctions, the traffic was controlled by police and released intermittently so you were 'forced' to speed up in order not to be stopped by the traffic. Partly the route are on highways and you have to pray that the cars speeding besides you would not accidentally coming into the group of runners ! The first 2 hours were still acceptable as there were not too many cars on the road; but it became worse after 7 am ! The FM started at 0500, and it was raining half an hour before and during the start. Light shower continued for the first 1 hour. The temperature was much more pleasant after the rain but humidity was very high ! There were around 1900 FM, 3000 HM and 7000+ 10K runners starting at different hours. There was no spectators along the route except those at the start/finish area. In summary, due to lack of experience, probably you cannot compare this to the Singapore Marathon !

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Hi Encore Thanks for your detailed report, which should make good reference for people who plan to go next year. -- Follow me on twitter.com/keithchamp

Re: [Overseas] Standard Chartered KL Marathon

Let me add to Encore's report, the HM portion. Basically, runners should know that there are no distance markers except when it merges with the FM. So, runners need to study the route so that they know what does 31km means in terms of HM distance. At the starting point, there is a public toilet that collects 20 sens per entry; no toilet roll but water hose is provided. No doubt that as the organiser improves on the process, this will be one of the races that most runners would want to run.
